Alzheimers North Carolina Inc. Supporting North Carolina Families Dealing with Alzheimers Disease Alzheimers North Carolina Inc. serving Eastern North Carolina families with support and services. http://alznc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage Thu, 09 Sep 2010 03:10:22 +0000 Joomla! 1.5 - Open Source Content Management en-gb Sue Scoggins Painter, Writer, Caregiver http://alznc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=141:sue-scoggins&catid=36:caregiving-articles http://alznc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=141:sue-scoggins&catid=36:caregiving-articles
A person’s responsibilities when their spouse is experiencing the effects of a serious medical condition can be overwhelming. Financial and socialization are all areas where the spouse takes on more of less than is healthy. Sue Scoggins is the wife of a man with Alzheimer’s disease in our area. Two vices keep this one-of-a-kind lady on an even keel; artwork and an internet blog. Sue started her blog to support others in similar situations. It serves as a lighthouse for others lost in the haze of frustration related to coping with Alzheimer’s disease. She shares personal stories of sadness and triumph that inspire reflection and laughter.

“It’s like walking a tight rope. When the acrobat is carrying his partner, balance is the key to making it across to the other side.”

Mrs. Scoggins’ second outlet has been with a paintbrush and canvas. Nurturing her artistic talent and interest from earlier in her life has provided energy and diversion from her husband’s cognitive losses. Her clever entries are accompanied by images of her latest paintings.

New Name. Same Mission. http://alznc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=124:new-name-same-mission http://alznc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=124:new-name-same-mission After serious consideration the Board of Directors of the former Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association decided that it was in the best interest of those residing in North Carolina to disaffiliate from the National Alzheimer’s Association to become Alzheimers North Carolina, Inc.. A different name but the same mission, the same programs and services, the same concern for those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, the same location and the same staff that have served North Carolinians in Eastern North Carolina for a quarter of a century—only the name is different. From the Triangle to the Coast of North Carolina (51 of North Carolina’s 100 counties) we have served individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, their families and professional caregivers for the past 28 years. We hope you our volunteers, donors and families will support our decision to utilize the funding entrusted to us to meet the needs of those needing our services in North Carolina.
